Downloading a Media Player


 


How do I download the Windows Media Player?

1. Go to the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

2. From the drop down menus, select the latest Windows Media Player that is appropriate for your system. Most Regent users will likely need the 9 series player for Win XP or Win 2000.

3. Hit Download on the first item of the menu at the bottom of the screen.

4. You will be prompted by Windows to save or open the program. Choose "Open."

5. An installation wizard will open. Follow the steps to finish your download.


How do I download the RealOne Player?

1. Go to http://www.real.com and find the link for the Free RealOne Player in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click on that link.

2. Find and click on the "Download the Free RealOne Player" link on the next page. Make sure it says "free".

3. A dialog box will appear asking you if you want to download the player. Hit "Yes."

4. Carefully follow the installation instructions that will appear.

Information for Internet Explorer 6.0 users:

Internet Explorer 6.0 will give you the option of playing the movie inside your browser or in an external player. If the following alert box appears when you click on a media link, check remember my preference and hit "No".

If you do not receive the above dialog box and the movie automatically plays in the small Media Bar, complete the following steps:

1. Make sure the Media Bar is open by selecting View --> Explorer Bar --> Media.

2. At the bottom left corner of the screen, select the drop down menu titled "Media Options"

3. Under "Setting", deselect "Play Web media in the bar" and select "Reset preferred types".
