Examples
Introduction: Using
a video to introduce you and your portfolio
- Example
#1 - In this introduction video the creator
introduces herself and explains features of her
portfolio.
- Example
#2 - In this introduction video the user is
able to view and hear about various skills the
creator has while obtaining information about their
education. (Note the long download time)
Demonstration: Using
video to demostrate a skill or ability. A
demonstration is an excellent way of showing your
capabilities in one area. This could be done very
easily through providing video of the actual demonstration
without additional effects.
- Example
#1 -
In this demonstration, Dr. Bruce Winston from the
School of Leadership Studies at Regent University,
discusses how students can improve their reading
speed and maintain comprehension. His process is
demonstrated with a doctoral student who reads
several passages from a text.
- Example
#2 -

uses digital video to demonstrate her teaching
at a college level course.
- Example
#3 - In this demonstration, Christine James
displays her skills working with a group of K-12
students using a teaching technique that encourages
memorization of a important clues when working
with large amounts of confusing content.
Role
Playing: Using video to role play your a
life-like scenario. A role-playing video is a great
way to display your skills in different situations.
This may require a little more camera movement, however,
it can be an exciting way to show your skills in
a "real life" situation.
- Example -This
is an excerpt from a role-play that demonstrates
the interviewing skills of listening and reflection.
This scenario was developed by Dr. Jennifer Ripley
of the School of Psychology and Counseling at Regent
University.
Video
Resume: A video resume is a great way to
explain your background and skills. In addition
to a resume already posted in your portfolio, the
video resume could service as a device to explain
the work you have done in more detail.
Video
Interview: A video interview is an excellent
choice for allowing an employer to get to know you
better. This can be used to give additional details
about your philosophies and ideas about different
things pertaining to your job of choice.
Video
Reference: A video reference could serve
as the perfect vehicle for persons who would like
to give you a great reference. You could have a former
employer explain their evaluation of your work and
your capabilities. A pastor, former teacher/professor,
work associate, would also make great choices for
your references.
